Salted Squid Bait

$4.00

Description

We’ve been working on a way to make fresher bait with the same shelf-life as our dehydrated baits. Our salted squid bait is packed in sea salt for preservation, like they did in the old days. This squid bait is real squid tentacles, salted, and ready to use. Salting the squid makes the bait tougher by reducing some of the moisture content. The salt holds the moisture and scent, and can also be used advantageously.

Just tear open the packet, put the salted squid bait on a suitable hook, and send it off to get eaten.

To Use:

  • Break open the single use package
  • Place on a suitable hook
  • Fish some fishy waters

Salted Baits

Salted baits are simply natural baits that have been made tougher by packing them in sea salt. Salt, as a natural preservative, creates an environment that limits bacterial growth, allowing for packaging ready-to-use fishing bait. Salting meats has been used historically as a method of food preservation with incredible shelf life. Salted baits keep the benefit of bait on hand for fishing with the added ability to pack it for unplanned use.

I grew up buying squid at the supermarket before heading to my fishing destination with my grandpa. We’d buy squid that morning and fish it all day. By high-noon, the thin bag of squid would be leaking, the rocks we’d be fishing off of would be covered in ooze, and we’d have a bucket of fish. By the end of the day, we’d throw that greenhouse squid in to the nearest trashcan – he wouldn’t allow it in the car.

In my adult years, I’ve been salting baits as a way to make fishing with my kids more convenient. I’m catching the same amount of fish and avoiding the mess of the fresh stuff and can keep my fishing trips relatively drama-free.

My first ever salted squid bait still lives in my pack today and is ready to use.
